THS Students and Families

Welcome back to the 2019-2020 school year!  We are excited at THS to start the new school year.  Here are a few important dates, times and reminders for you.


19-20 Schedules

August 6 - Students should receive their schedules, locker assignments, and combinations via email on August 6.  Please print these schedules out at home and bring them to open hallways and the first day of school. 


School Pictures/Open Hallways

July 31 - 10am-2pm (Any HS grade level)

August 7 - 4-8pm (Juniors and Seniors), pick up 18-19 Yearbook

August 8 - 4-8pm (Freshman and Sophomores) - same day as Link Crew, pick up 18-19 Yearbook


Student Pictures: High school students will be required to come in to take their yearbook/ID photo on one of the following dates: July 31: 10am-2pm (Any HS grade level). August 7: 4pm-8pm (Juniors and Seniors), August 8: 4pm-8pm (Freshman and Sophomores). These are suggested times for each grade level. Regardless of date, any high school grade level may get their picture taken, including senior pictures.  Middle school students will not have their pictures taken at the high school during these times.   


Open Hallways/School Supplies: Students will have access to their academic locker on August 7 and 8 from 4pm-8pm.  Feel free to have your child test out their locker combination and place necessary school supplies in their lockers before the first day of school.  The high school does not send out a school supply list that students are required to purchase before the first day of school.  Teachers will let your child know what materials they will need for each class during the first week of school.  A good starting point is to have loose-leaf paper, binders, folders, pencils, and pens that will help with the initial days of school.  It is also suggested that students purchase some type of agenda that they may use to keep track of their assignments. The school will not be providing agendas to students.  If students are unable to come in during the Open Hallways event, they may access their lockers during summer office hours of 7:30am-2:30pm, Monday through Friday, starting on August 5.   


Parking Permits: Parking stickers will be sold August 5, 6 and 7 during summer office hours of 7:30am-2:30pm. August 5 will begin the lottery for senior students.  August 6 will be designated for juniors and August 7 will be for sophomores/freshman.  Permits may also be purchased on August 7 and 8 from 4-8pm when school pictures are taken. The B lot will be open first to seniors, then we will move to D lot for the juniors and then we will fill the C lot.  Junior and senior students in the top 10% of their class and the top 10% of students with the most growth on the PSAT/SAT will be given the opportunity to choose their parking spot.  Students who receive this award were sent an email the week of June 10th identified the spot they would like saved by replying via email.   These students may choose any spot in B,C or D lot. All students fees must be paid in August in order to purchase a parking sticker.  Students will need to bring a valid driver’s license, a completed form and the $75 fee when they come on August 5, 6, 7, or 8. The form will have to be signed by a parent or guardian and all information must be completed for the student to receive their sticker.  If students are unable to purchase their sticker the first week of August, students will be permitted to drive to school without a parking permit during the first two weeks of school.  Students will be required to have their parking permit by September 3.

Students will be allowed to drive to school without a parking permit until Friday, August 30.  Students will be required to have their parking permit by this day and park in their required parking spot. Students will not receive a warning if parked inappropriately after this date. Students can only park in a numbered location.  Students without a parking permit will be allowed to park in the designated area of the C lot. These students MUST sign their vehicle in at the office and pay a dollar. 


2018-2019 THS Yearbook: If your child ordered a 2018-2019 THS yearbook, they may pick it up on August 7 or 8 between 4-8pm in the cafeteria.  Yearbooks not picked up on this date may be picked up from Ms. Amen in room 133 after the beginning of school. 


August 8

Freshman Orientation takes place at the High School from 8-Noon through our Link Crew Program on August 8.  More information about the program may be found at the following Link Crew link.


Fall Sports Tryouts start during the week of August 12.  Please access the following Fall Sports Tryouts  link for more information from our athletic department. 


August 15

First Day of School (This year our normal school day is 8:05AM-2:35PM).  Students will receive their ID card with their new picture and bar code prior to the lunch period. 


August 16

Students who would like their ID picture re-taken or who didn’t get their pictures taken in early August will be able to take their picture during homeroom/lunch on the 2nd day of school. 


Cafeteria Payments: Triad offers parents the ability to manage their child's meal account balances through an online management service called Pay Schools Central. This service benefits students, parents and the school cafeteria. Management of your child's account through this online service will ensure that they never have to worry about carrying cash for lunch purchases and having the money with them at the start of lunch service.  Using the Pay Schools Central  service, parents can log in at any time to make a deposit to their child's account, view their child's account balance, set up recurring deposits to their child's account, set up e-mail notifications when their child's account falls below a certain dollar amount, or request a report showing what the child has purchased on their account. Payments processed before 8 p.m. should post to the student's account the next morning, in most cases.  Please contact your child's school for their ID number at 667-5409. More information about this service is described on the Districts website.  An alternative approach is to provide your child with cash/check to give to a cafeteria cashier to be added to their lunch account.  Money on your child’s account will be associated with the bar code on their school ID that they receive on August 15. Updated school lunch prices are listed on the following District website. 


Bus Schedules: New bus schedules will be posted in PlusPortals. Freshman and new students will not have access to PlusPortals and will need to rely on a separate email sent to all parents indicating their child’s bus number, location pickup, and time.  As routes are being finalized, this email will be sent on a date TBD.



Required Vaccinations for Seniors: Below are the STATE OF ILLINOIS VACCINE REQUIREMENTS 2019-2020 for grade 6 and grade 12 students:  Meningococcal Conjugate Vaccine (protects against bacterial meningitis, a rapidly progressive and life- threatening disease):

*6th graders: ONE dose of MCV4 on or after the 11th birthday *12th graders: TWO doses of MCV4 with the second dose given on or after their 16th b-day or ONE dose on or after their 16th b-day.


You will need to contact your primary care physician this summer so that your child has received TWO doses of MCV4 on or after their 16th birthday.  Please ask your physician to provide the school nurse with the necessary paperwork verifying that your child has received the vaccine.  If a senior has not received their vaccine before 9/15/19, they will be excluded from attending school.



Incoming Freshman - PHYSICALS

All incoming ninth grade students must have a physical with up-to-date immunizations on the required State of Illinois Certificate of Child Health Exam form.  Physicals completed on a summer camp form, IHSA sports physical form or any other physician’s office form will not be acceptable.  A 9th grade physical will suffice as a sports physical for the year but you should make additional copies for yourself,  the coach and for the nurse at registration. Call to schedule your appointment early in the summer as they book quickly.  Physical exams are due September 15, or 30 days from enrollment if new to the district. Failure to submit the Physical Exam will results in exclusion from school.


Incoming Freshmen: Students taking Algebra I and Honors Geometry next year will need to purchase a TI-84 graphing calculator for class.  The price of a TI-84 is about $120, but this calculator will last your student for his/her entire four years at THS.  If you are interested, a TI-84 can be found economically using the following methods: - Ebay/Craigslist  (as of mid-May, a TI-84 cost about $55 on Ebay). - Supply stores usually run specials the first few weeks of school (Target and Office Max specifically). - For those who need financial assistance, the THS Math Department has a calculator rental program where a student may rent a calculator for $25 per year.  The Math Department only has a limited number of calculators to rent, so please use this method only if your family really needs assistance.

There are many types of TI-84 calculators on the market (TI-84 Plus, TI-84 Silver, TI-84 Color).  The Math Department has no specific model recommendations, so feel free to save some money with the cheaper models.   Students taking Plane Geometry next year can still use a scientific calculator for that class and do not need to purchase a graphing calculator yet.
